The only thing I have ever disagreed with what this guy has said is Crates. I know people who put their dog in a crate where they get left for hours. You can not do that with an intelligent animal. It is a mental anguish. I like to see anyone be put in a crate with very little room that they can’t get out of for hours on end and watch how they like it. Not to mention even if your dog is potty trained. Sometimes they are going to have an upset stomach not much unlike people and now they are going to have to sit in their own crap. I could never do that to mine. He did have to be kennel bound for a while due to an injury, but he had room to move in case of an accident he wouldn’t be sitting in it. And he had a view, toys and a chew bone for some stimulation.
I got a puppy today and it’s completely shut down. 4 months old Pomchi. It’s frightened of everything, completely unsocialized. He helps and bites and pee’s when you pick him up, if you hold him he balks up hides his face. He’s not eating or drinking. Our vet is closed until Tuesday but I plan to have him seen then. Any ideas or suggestions on how to help him. I’m going to let him decompress for a couple of days, but he’s in a crate and I put a puppy pad down, but I still have to take him outside to go to the bathroom.
Hey I have a question about dog parks specifically at my apartment there is a small park for fogs to play in. The only dog she has interacted woth close up in a park is my other dog. We dont let her play with others just yet for safety reasons but how do you feel about using it if they are alone or with the other pets within the household they live with. Ours has agility obstacles we use to build her confidence and so on.
My Siberian Husky has been pretty bad with potty training. I can walk her for an hour (we live in a apartment) and she will literally hold it until we're inside the house. Am I like keeping the walks too short or is she just being a Husky?
Socialize with out bringing them out until after their 1,2,3 puppy shot? What is safe? Our pup was given first shot at 6 1/2 weeks and vet would not give him the second until 10 weeks and says he needs 4 series of shots before we can safely walk him in community areas. So now that will be 16 weeks of age for him to walk in the neighborhood
Yup the minute he had all his shots he was out the door every. Single. Day. Going to strip malls and beaches, places where there was a lot of foot traffic. He's still wants to be friends with everyone, unfortunately.. but it's better than him barking his head off.
