You nailed it! Rescued for years and it works with every beautiful fur baby thatβs come into our lives!!! Driving 5 hrs tomorrow to find a new rescue in factβ€β€β€β€β€
Those top tips are what I planned to do but my new rescue isn't interested in treats or toys. He also just lays down when I want to walk him. He's 8 months old. Not sure how to handle this.
You couldnβt resume better than this! The first month after that I had my rescue was just adapting to each other! But I saw the very first of transformation when I started to find our new routine! I gave her rules, boundaries and limits, she was barking and escaping all the time. After that she saw that she could predict her routine, she became a new other dog! She started to see me as the leaderβ¦. It took 7 months for my husky to feel really happy here! I have no behaviour issues now! Every day is a blessing with my dogs!
π’2 months ago we got a 2-year-old rescue basenji terrier mix. She's definitely fearful and has snapped at both of us. We've had dogs our whole lives, but never one past eight weeks of age. Kind of floundering…
We've always had shelter/rescue dogs, never even considered breeds. The point of a dog is not to get a fashion statement but to help an animal find a home.
My family will be taking a 5 month golden retriever from another family heβs been bullied by 2 Chihuahua I have 2 children a 2 and a 6 year old it will be their first family pet any advice on the introduction the dog currently lives with children but none as young as 2
Also, very important, the 3-3-3 rule. 3 days to decompress from the stress of moving homes yet again. 3 weeks to learn to relax and accept the routine, and 3 months to get comfortable with the home, stability and routine. I've also noticed that around 3 years there's another relaxation point, as though the dog has finally let go of something and can full bond with you. I have had 8 rescue Aussies in the last 30 years
This goes for ALL dogs. This advice is nit exclusive to only rescue dogs. The problem with most problem dogs, which are the reasons why most dogs end up in rescue, are always the humans that have no idea how to truly love a dog. These 3 things are what dogs crave and how you can best show them love. These are also, oddly enough, the 3 things that children also crave and need. This is what's wrong in the world today.

Thank you for confirming all my efforts! How can I provide the best leadership? My little chiweenie still doesnβt respond to her name.
You're describing a stray dog, but I feel like you're describing me. πΉπ
I got a rescue one year old golden retriever, he was abused by his previous owner, and so he's a very scared dog who hides from sudden movement

My shelter dog is a hellion. Bless his heart.
Top dog π
Just like me, lol! Iβm a mess without structure and routine.
Omg am I a rescue dog

Trying to be an alpha or get a dog to be "obedient" is what insecure beta men do. Just treat them with respect and love. That's it
Patience and a calm home are first and foremost of importance.
