I know it's extremely childish but I couldn't help but think that Will was sitting on the toilet when I seen the thumbnail of the clip. On a more grownup note I teach my new puppy to sit, then to stop whatever he's doing that's naughty by placing my hand into his mouth and slightly raising my voice and saying No! When he goes to nip it and last but definitely not least I learn him the recall, which I happen to think is the most important thing any dog should learn. I use a training line, I get down to his level and give the line a little tug while calling his name and when he comes to me I shower him with pets and praise and give him a small treat. Obviously my breed is the Border Collie so it's an awful lot easier but I've had plenty of other breeds too, mainly terriers and it works just fine with them too.
Can't I just snap my fingers instead of using a clicker? Seems more convenient.
Thank you for this! We’re raising our second puppy and now I’m old enough to do so, I want to train her myself – your videos have been so useful. Please can I ask however you give a flash warning at the start of your videos when you use that glitchy-camera effect or anything similar (just simply write “CW: flash 💥” – those who need it know what it means). Lots of people, like myself, have serious photo-sensitive conditions like migraines and seizures and we need to take precautions when using platforms like YouTube in order to avoid episodes (but we still wanna watch your videos 🐾)

Name first. Potty training next. Everything else afterwards. Always using positive reinforcement. I don't use food or a clicker or anything other than affection. Dogs are pack animals and understand affection. This is how they know they're part of the pack. Just the way I do it.
So studies are showing that dogs understand words. Ball is a ball, fetch means fetch to them.
I always thought the most important command was recall.
Whats the verbal marker? Can that be the name? My family is getting a gsd puppy in two weeks
It is faster and more secure to click with your mouth. As you (hopefully😂) never loose it. Scattered brains, like I have, have a tendency to misslay things.
So good advice otherwise!!

Yeap , as I thought he is food orientated. It makes training so easy …. Guys when you got to pick a puppy hopefully you can find out before hand they are foodies …. Training a gsd not interested in food is a whole different ball game .
"Sit", "stay" and "no" were the only things my dog ever learned to adhere to 100% of the time 😂😂 my mum didn't train her properly but I wasn't gonna let bad public manners slide
Dogs might not understand the abstract concept of a name, but they understand the association. We can say a name and they know exactly who we're talking about.
