I have been training with my 4 1/2 old cane corso. She is doing very well. There is one particular command that she does not want to do and that is place her self up on one of those step up place mats. It is about 5 inches off the ground and I think rather small. Should I use force to make her do this?
I just got a shepherd from a rescue. He was found roaming neighborhoods.Hes dark, possibly Czech, he has a European chip not more than avyear old and well behaved, with obvious training. After 6 weeks of expanded search,no one has claimed him.We start tomorroww a private trainer, a first for me. Along with the basics is a major goal. he ran my cat off I have a separate work studio on my property w a cat door, and her food is gone every morning.Ive seen her two or three times where Tyson the dog is kept in the house.I watched the cat/ dog video and its been most informative. Its a going to take some time to bring her in the house even. I have a living room with glass French doors I can close off,so he can see me w her. Not sure if that's wise .He needs to learn a spot to retreat to, to come to me, stay when I say, and then leave it.That sounds like a game plan. Any suggestions are so welcome .My last dog was a labradoodle I heard about in my town, he was 9 and his owner had stomach cancer .I joined 2 people who helped walk him,and he eas brought to my house the next day. She left him w me for a trial, went home abd died that night. The next day a vet informed me that he was a non seeing dog, which she forgot to mention. I got him a seeing eye kitten who grew up with him and never left his side.He passed on Mothers Day. So it was just us, until 2 weeks ago So her being displaced is heartwrenching. It is possible for her to live in my studio, hopefully we can all get along. He needs to protect her as a family member, not run her off. Hes young, and I think he only chased her because she ran. I dont blame her, his mouth is the size of a cat carrier
lol I love your videos and your amazing I still have many problems with my pup but we’re trying really hard to work through them but besides the point I would try not to hold a lease like that just as you don’t want to do that with a horse because it can break, fracture, dislocate, and even rip your fingers or even hand off not saying all dogs can do that but if your working with a strong dog with reactivity it plays too as I have noticed it’s a good rule of thumb with any animal on a lead for in many occasions it can save you from miner or major injury. Love you man your such a great trainer thank you for showing people what you know
What do you do with a large wolfhound pup that will not come when you call them, & starts lunging & jumping circles around you thinking it’s playtime when called?
Genuinely isn't that too many sounds for what she's doing or atleast what your trying to teach your dog? Is what you're dog is doing currently what ANY dog would do? Or is this a trained dog already. .
Working on this with my bagel! It is so hard !! I live in a dangerous place, on a Mountain in the woods. Lots of wild animals predators, and farmers that will shoot if he were to runoff and chase the rabbits or chickens or their livestock stock. He’s harmless and wouldn’t hurt them but very curious. I told all the neighbors know he is mine if I see him please do not shoot. It is very scary not having him come when called. He is Houdini, and always escapes. We even escaped are 5 foot fencing! He didn’t go under it he must’ve gone over. And he had to first escaped his heavy duty chain that is installed under ground without his collar coming off. I don’t know how he does it.!! Recall tips are welcome from anyone! Thank you
What do you do with a dog who in most situations has great recall but if she gets locked onto something like another dog or a person they don’t listen. It feels really random when she does it. Tonight I let her out of her pen outside to bring her inside and she ran to the neighbors to bark at their dog through the fence. Most nights we’re fine and she goes directly inside no problem but sometimes maybe a month or two or three will go by and then one night she decides to do this. I sat there and yelled her name until i was blue in the face but until she calmed down and realized I was calling she just stayed locked on to that other dog. It’s not all the time though, most of the time she’s fine we play fetch off leash outside and she can see that same dog while we’re playing and she listens great. If I can’t get it figured out soon I may have to rehome her which breaks my heart because I’ve had her since she was a puppy and she’s 5 now. But I’m moving somewhere where this behavior can not happen.
How come some dog trainers change their voice to sound like women when training?? I see this often lol. Do you have to use that voice when recalling your dog now?
Tom and/NBD family… being an inexperienced puppy parent I think I gave my boy too much freedom too soon so indoors he will come but on& especially off leash OUTDOORS he will not come back until he's ready. I've even tried an e collar but without success. It actually seemed to just make him more defiant and I was afraid to traumatize him so stopped after the 2nd day. Any suggestions are appreciated 🙏 He's 10mos old and already 65lbs n strong TYSVM for all you do so genuinely and generously 🤩❣️
I use one word commands all the time. I try not to use more than that. But there are a couple of commands that is more than one word. But not a lot. One word commands work better with my dog. She understands me better. I say stay, she stays, I say front, she sits in front of me, I say side and then tap my hip, she comes and stands by my side and then I put my hand in front of her face and that means for her to sit. She knows over 30 commands and hand signals. She also understands certain areas. When I say grass, she goes into the grass. That keeps her out of the road. When I say home, she knows we're going home. When I say door, she knows to go to the door and wait. The only problem I have with her, fetch. She will not fetch. She doesn't like balls. When she tears of a toy that has a ball inside, she will not play with it. She will kind of fetch, but she'll only fetch twice. No more. She'll sit there and look at the object and then look at me and just sit there. I've tried every trick in the book, everything that I can think of on my own, she just won't fetch. I need her to fetch because I have health issues that cause me to drop things. I have a bad back that makes it hard to bend over to pick up things from the floor. This is the only problem I'm really having with her. The other problem I was having with her, was her pulling. I have been working with her a lot lately and she's improved a lot. She's a smart girl and she loves to work. She lets me know when she wants to work too. One thing, she's actually treat motivated. The more important commands, she will do without treats. Minor commands, she wants a treat AKA cookie. She's the best dog I've ever had. I brought her home when she was 10 weeks old. By the time she was 6 months old, she knew all her basic commands and more. That dog is so freaking smart! That's why her name is Tesla. Best dog ever!
"Come!" = come directly to sitting in heel position and wait for further instruction.
"Let's go!" = you still have freedom to have fun, but need to circle back closer to my vicinity. OR I'm starting to head this way and you should be too!
Never repeat your dog's recall word. Say it once and if your dog doesn't come right away, then pop the leash and move backwards quickly. Your dog can end up with emotional baggage to that word if you keep repeating it….they won't take it as seriously. I had to change my dogs recall word once before because her old word she wouldn't always come to. This is the way I was taught to teach my dog recalls. She's on e collar now and will recall every time. 😊

The dog is teaching him to give him a treat. The dog is learning to follow commands for food. Bad training.
Baby voice is not realistic. Talk like u would in a real situation so the dog gets used to that not baby talk. Use ur chest
Tom you are so kind and gentle
🫶🏻

Why do all YouTube trainers show recall on a f@cking cockerdoodle or some other benign breed, never show it on a Jack Russel etc
So frustrating
What do you do with a large wolfhound pup that will not come when you call them, & starts lunging & jumping circles around you thinking it’s playtime when called?
I bet you can't do that with a Frenchie……
That female voice is well rehearsed.
You didn’t do anything you said you do tho lol
Da FX&/!? it’s so sad how anyone can claim to be a dog trainer nowadays unbelievable bull crap.
But Tom, at the end of this clip she didn’t sit 😮

How would you progress from long line to no at all
Do we have to have like a high pitch voice or no? Only because every trainer sounds like this? And I don’t have the best high pitch voice.
Thanks
Working on this with my bagel!
It is so hard !!

Thank god, I’m doing something right 😂. Training a dog (or a human!) is exhausting but important work.
I thought it was a woman talking to the dog

What kind of Leash/lead is that?
He said he makes them sit… and then he doesn’t:/
okay but also, what’s with the voice? i thought you weren’t supposed to get all high pitched like that.
Stella is not interested. She is not focused on the trainer.
That high pitch voice though!
Teaching a break command has been the most important thing I've taught my dog!
I like to say 'this way' to my dogs whilst changing direction or asking them to loosely follow as long as they're in my vicinity 😊
What was the one mistake that will ruin your dog's recall…? 🐶
All that and he doesn't even get the puppy to sit at the end.
Tom, from what age do you start training

Then when you get to the point of 100% recall and can do it at the dog park you will get soooo many looks like wtf this guy is the dog whisperer LOL

My dog flies right past me to the person with the sandwich🤦♀️😂
I love how you work with the dogs.
My boy, Whiskey, has 2 different recalls. 😃
"Come!" = come directly to sitting in heel position and wait for further instruction.
"Let's go!" = you still have freedom to have fun, but need to circle back closer to my vicinity. OR I'm starting to head this way and you should be too!
Long lines are the best, I wish more people would utilize them! 🙌🏼
What treat do you give the dog?

You go bro
