As a belgian mallinois and first time dog owner i can say 100% yes they have energy like no other and will tear up everything in their path.( i got him from a shelther as a puppy and i didn't know anything about the breed other than it's cute and he seemed to like me found out later what breed he is). But if you have the time and somehow figure out what to do the belgian mallinois is an absolutely beautifull breed. I can say that as a first time dog owner garret and his courses saved me and improved my life with my dog with his leashed and unleashed course, and i can't thank him enough.(Btw now i got into competitions and we'll have our first igp i hope he'll do good).
A bloke that lives near me has a golden doodle that never ever goes out because he can't handle it. So what did the moron do? Get a Malinois, who is also not going out anywhere. It's only 8months old and way more intelligent for him. He's going to ruin the dog
Big fan of our dutchy/pit mix. She is mouthy, but less βhigh speedβ. She kept the dutchy look without as much need. Iβm pro mix breed for families personally
I keep hearing how they don't make good pets. I have a 3 year old male who is great. I take him with me to work most days, I manage an auto repair/tire shop, and he is great there. In fact, when I don't take him, I have regular customers asking where he is. He is very friendly, but he's always watching everyone and stays right by me most of the time.
These dogs do not need to work all day every day.. 15 minutes twice a day using the right exercises is more than enough. I have a high drive mal and multiple acres of property. She uses most of her energy in a 20 x 20 square-foot area. If I open the door to let her go outside, she stands on the stair waiting for me. Wide open Spaces are pointless if you do the wrong stuff. She also has an off switch, when I say βno moreβ sheβs done. You can tell she drops focus and even changes breathing pattern.
So true! Thank you for this video. I have a female Lab/Mal cross & a male Mal. They are both highly sensitive & very affectionate. The male LOVES children & babies. He is naturally protective of them, which is adorable. He's afraid of tons of stuff, though. It's a lot of work to help him be brave. I've never had a dog that I had to go get & bring them back into a perceived scary situation & show them it's OK. This was not what I expected. It's new to me & I'm learning along with him a whole different side of dog training! Oh, Garrett, you talk of good behavior at the door. Which they have, but they both open & close the door. If I don't beat them to the door, they let themselves out…lol! Poor mailman….π Just kidding. He likes them.
Very true. They are super easy to train and they need excercise and obviously at least basic training. I really dont get how many people claim a mal is a hard to train dog and have so many issues.
I foster pups through a rescue, I was tasked with "catahoula" puppies. 1 was sweet as can be, adopted 2 months later. June… she had the Malinois teeth chatter from day 1! I'm DNA testing her soon but I could almost bet she has Malinois in her (crazy energy AND catahoula intelligence… send help) I call her a crackhead bc she just treats my house like a parkour playground π I had to step up my training with her!
I have a half malinois and retriever mix and I can tell you that he's a little monster sometimes and if I didn't work on a farm and able to work off a majority of that energy then it would be awful

Absolut correct, agree π―. But if you have first your Mal and later (4ys old) you start with kids they are amazing family dogs
Same thing with working line GSD's!

The best guard dog is something that big know body thing about going near it. It doesn't need to bite it doesn't need to bark it just stand up.

I love the help and advice you are giving
Thank you

They are beautiful amazing dogs but are not a family dog. The amount of work and time this dogs need to be trained and keep happy is huge.
Do you think Dutch shepherds have the same drive ?my Dutch is 9 and still has a lot of energy .

Off topic….love your haircut β€
never a bad dog, just bad owners. all animals need training instead of being purse trophies
