This is so hard when you have a job and children but we're trying here. My puppy is 4 months old today. He won't poo in the crate but he'll pee in there. I don't let him wander the home because he'll just pee everywhere. He's only been with us 2 weeks though. Pray for us, y'all lol

I keep watching videos and reading comments that say to let your dog/puppy outside to potty every 2-3 hours. Does anyone work a full time job that owns a dog/puppy? How do you let a dog out every 2-3 hours when you work an 8 hour job?
Ok for starters….how the HELL do you get it to go to that mat? EVERY single help video i have watched just leaves me distraught and in tears. I just got a 9 week old chihuahua/dachshund cross, a male. The seller said he was very quiet, sensitive. And had been with cats and knew to keep a respectful distance. Perfect. I am 70, not terribly well, and had one dog once that i rescued when she was an adult of 9 years old and nearly starved to death. she was brilliant….never any problem. When she died i went into a depression. 5 months later is now….. and i have had the new puppy one week. It is the polar opposite of everything the seller said. He is constantly chasing and terrifying my three elderly cats, the seller said he "always does his toilt on newspaper, very easy"…..more lies, he refuses to go on or even near any newspaper….theres pee and poo all over the house…..he is very manic…..either manic or asleep, nothing in between.
I am heartbroken, exhausted, angry and becoming violent for the first time in my LIFE. Theres no "puppy school" or any kind of training facility anywhere near me. I have rescued animals all my life and had a big, happy sanctuary in europe. I am actually wanting to get the sellers address and seriously do her some damage, i have never before been like this. I am an educated university graduate, usually very gentle and quiet. I am a recluse and live very very isolated. No partner, kids all overseas. I dont know what to do. I want to KILL THAT WOMAN. i have HAD IT with being lied to and taken for a ride. She was obviously a moron…..covered in tattoos and no teeth, poorly spoken., ill educated. Yes i know…..serves me right for believing an obvious no hoper.
Any advice on a puppy 12 weeks old I go outside and have it trying to pee and poo. I stay outside after every play, nap and feeding for half an hour as soon as I put it into the crate she poops and pees inside the crate like on command. Any advice would help thank you.
That makes so much scene, i just got a puppy that im house training, now my wife passsed away about month ago, and i needed something to occupy my mind, and Bigs came into my life at the right time, but i forgot how hard it was to potty train a puppy, you are right as far as not to get mad at the dog when he dose, i would punish my pup , but i tried it your way, and its working way faster, because i was sending him mixed signals, thank you for your help, and you have a new fan god bless ๐ โค๏ธ ๐ ๐
What about a young adult (intact female)? I thought potty issues were just puppy related but she's 2 now & pooping intentionally inside despite much access to outside, doggy door & mature potty trained dog companion to demo & going outside too. Inside she usually poops in the basement or attic, both of which have a litterbox. The cat was here first & we got this dog as a puppy so cat wasnt a new change for her. She has had some excitment pee, so i wondered if its separation anxiety when we arent home since she's used to someone home most of the time esp growing up (there has not been a super regular schedule of whos home when but more than a few hours in an empty house is rare) … or marking bc of the cat or being intact (not spayed) some kind of behavioral thing. She is happy and well adjusted otherwise. How to go back and re restablish proper potty habits in a way that is realistic and doable ?
Best to slow this video down as she's talking way to fast for anyone to absorb what she's saying… There's really too much detail too. Should've been two videos, one the "starter" video and another the "fill in details"… Just my opinion.

My issue is that I've always seen my new puppy's signs for needing to potty. He just refuses to go outside. I take him out constantly and he will hold it until we come back in. I'm just back and forth going in and out with him and he always goes inside. First week I even stayed outside with him after food, drink, nap, and play for four hours hoping to wait him out. I had treats with me ready to reward him. I live in central Texas. It's in the 90s – 100sF here. I've a medical condition and young children. I can't stay in the heat like that. Still four hours and nothing, as soon as we came back inside and I collapsed into a chair he pooped and peeped. HE HELD IT! He waited! We've had him for a month now and still little to no progress. What can I do?

Puppy never finished outside. Just waited 4 to 5 hours and floors inside again. I have never punished her. I have had many puppies and it was never heard to potty train.

I was asked to watch this video and I have no idea what I just watched, you talk a mile a minute and packed some much information into one video, I don't think I retained anything you just said and feel like I wasted 20 minutes of my day
These all sound great but what do I do if I canโt catch my puppy to go outside?? I let him have a little free range time with in the kitchen โ he went to the door and rang his bell to go outside but when I approach him, he takes off running from me. Circling around the island โ this just started happening a few days ago.

I am now 53 years old. When I was approximately 9/10 years old, I was in Girl Scouts. We were trying to earn a badge and someone came to speak to us about potty training puppies. They gave us a booklet about puppies and dogs. What the booklet suggested was, when the dog urinates, take a paper towel or towel, get up the urine, take the soiled towel to a spot, chosen by you and put it down. Put a rock or something on the towel so that it doesn't blow away. Everytime the pup goes out, take he/she to the same spot where the towel is, rain shine, sleet or snow. They can still smell their scent and tell the pup "potty." I would set my pup down on top of the towel to be sure they smelled the urine. If the pup walks away, it's okay, just don't let them go to far away from the towel. If they start to walk away. Pick them up, take back to the towel and say "potty" again. It will take a few times for the puppy to catch on but if you are consistent, you will see progress sooner rather than later. Be sure to observe the pup so that when they void, give plenty of praise. They may have a couple of accidents. If they do, do not scold x just say no, pick the pup up, take to spot and say "potty." The most important thing is to be consistent. If you are not, the training will not work and it is your fault, not the puppy's. I have used this method for every puppy/dog(if not potty trained) and this has always worked. No matter the method, if you are not consistent, it will not work. Pets only know what you teach them. I often get asked how does my dog know what to do and where to go when I say "(go potty)." This is after the training is complete, how my dog knows what to do and again I explain my method and stress the importance of consistency. I have never used any other method other than this. Thank you Girl Scouts and I earned my badge.

So if you want dog or puppy to go poddy at night then feed them in the morning…if you want dog to go poddy in the morning then fed them at night…also if you over feed your dog they will have unexpected accidents. That's to be expected. And also try taking them outside every 2-3 hrs.
